According to Sun Myung Moon, Eve had intercourse with Satan and caused the spiritual fall of mankind. She then had intercourse with Adam, resulting in the physical fall. Jesus only paid for the spiritual fall of mankind and, according to Moon, failed to save mankind physically.
In his book Divine Principle, page 148 Moon says “Jesus could not accomplish the purpose of the providence of physical salvation because his body was invaded by Satan. However, he could establish the basis for spiritual salvation … through … the blood of the cross.”
On page 151 of Divine Principle Moon says “In fact, Jesus was then resolved to take the cross as the condition of indemnity to pay for the accomplishment of even the spiritual salvation of man when he found that he was unable to accomplish the providence of both spiritual and physical salvation (Luke 9:31).”
“We, therefore, must realize that Jesus did not come to die on the cross.” Divine Principle p.143
The Cross was Satan’s Victory, not God’s. (Home Study Course for the Divine Principle p.30, Divine Principle p.143, Dialogue, p.161)
From the time of Jesus through the present, all Christians have thought that Jesus came to the world to die. This is because they did not know the fundamental purpose of Jesus’ coming as the Messiah, and entertained the wrong idea that spiritual salvation was the only mission for which Jesus came to the world. Jesus came to accomplish the will of God in his lifetime, but had to die a reluctant death due to the disbelief of the people. … We have clarified the fact that Jesus did not come to die, but if we ask Jesus directly through spiritual communication, we can see the fact even more clearly.” Divine Principle p. 152
The Bible proves Sun Myung Moon wrong
Joh 17:4 “ I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.” This is Jesus speaking to the Father. Is Jesus just mistaken here or did he finish what he came here to do? This scripture clearly contradicts what Moon teaches.
Heb 12:2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Heb 7:25 Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.
We see that Jesus fulfilled all that the Father had for him here on earth. I think it’s a good time to point out that of all the hundreds of prophecies about Jesus in the Old Testament, not one of them mentions anything about him becoming a True Parent. There are no scriptures mentioning him getting married or having kids. There are no prophecies or teachings about the need for True Parents.
The Old Testament is filled with sacrifices giving us a type and shadow of the perfect sacrifice to come. The entire Old Testament carries a theme of sacrifice covering sin and this theme is what teaches us about the work Christ did for us. For thousands of years, God was conditioning his people to recognize the actions of their Messiah. He even timed Christ’s sacrifice to fall on Passover. This was no unintentional accident. The prophetic significance of Jesus (the Lamb of God) being sacrificed on Passover cannot be overlooked.
The entire Old Testament is filled with passages looking forward to the Messiah and yet there is not one mention of a need to cover both a spiritual and physical fall. If the concept of True Parents was so important to God, why didn’t he mention it somewhere in the scriptures? We should see this taught all over the Bible and yet we don’t see it mentioned even once.
Sun Myung Moon teaches that Jesus did not rise bodily
“As we well know through the Bible, Jesus after the resurrection was not the same Jesus who had lived with his disciples before his crucifixion. He was no longer a man seen through physical eyes…. He once suddenly appeared in a closed room…” Divine Principle p.360
“Jesus, in order to save mankind, had established the spiritual foundation of faith…, after giving up his physical body to the cross as a sacrifice.” Divine Principle p.360-361
“Because the Jewish people disbelieved Jesus and delivered him up for crucifixion, his body was invaded by Satan, and he was killed. Therefore, even when Christians believe in and become one body with Jesus, whose body was invaded by Satan, their bodies still remain subject to Satan’s invasion.” Divine Principle p.147-148
The Bible says Jesus rose from the grave bodily
The bible teaches clearly that Jesus rose from the grave bodily, once again proving Sun Myung Moon to be a false prophet.
John 2:18-21 Then answered the Jews and said unto him, What sign shewest thou unto us, seeing that thou doest these things? (19) Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up. (20) Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days? (21) But he spake of the temple of his body.
How much clearer can it get? The Bible explicitly says here that Jesus told them he would raise up his body in three days. Don’t forget to take notice of the question the Jews asked Jesus. What sign will you show us? Were the Jews supposed to be impressed by Jesus’ spirit ascending? The Jews already believed in life after death. The obvious point here is that Jesus was predicting the resurrection of his body.
Acts 2:31-32 He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption. (32) This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.
In other words, Jesus’ body was not invaded by Satan and it did not decay in a tomb.
John 20:24-28 But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. (25) The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe. (26) And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you. (27) Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing. (28) And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.
Luke 24:36-40 And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you. (37) But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit. (38) And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts? (39) Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have. (40) And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them his hands and his feet.
Again, how much clearer can you get? Jesus talks of his hand and feet. He says he has flesh and bones and that he is not a spirit. How can you possibly argue around this? Jesus was not in spirit. Jesus had risen from the grave bodily.
If you are part of the Unification Church, please think and pray about this. It is clear that the Bible and Moon’s words contradict. Moon said that his words do not contradict the scriptures and here we see clearly that they do. Should we listen to Moon or the Words of God?
Jesus died for you and his death was fully sufficient. There is no need for indemnity. Jesus paid for your sins when he sacrificed himself on the cross. I beg you to pray about this. Trust in Christ and be saved.
Tomorrow on Youth Apologetics Training we will look at more things that Moon taught that contradicts the word of God.
