In previous days we have discussed how Sun Myung Moon claims that his words are equal to the Bible and that his words do not contradict the Bible. Today we will look at one of his teachings that clearly contradicts the word of God.
Sun Myung Moon teaches that Jesus is not God
“…Jesus, as a man having fulfilled the purpose of creation, is one body with God. … Nevertheless, he can by no means be God Himself. … Jesus, being one body with God, may be called a second God (image of God), but he can by no means be God Himself. … Jesus was a man who had perfected the purpose of creation, and does not signify that he was the Creator Himself. … Furthermore, when we find that Jesus said on the cross, “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?” it becomes clear that Jesus is not God Himself.” DP p.210-212
The Bible teaches that Jesus is God
Hebrews 1:8-10 But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom. (9) Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows. (10) And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands:
John 1:1-3 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (2) The same was in the beginning with God. (3) All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
Colossians 1:14-17 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: (15) Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: (16) For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: (17) And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.
Tit 2:13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;
John 20:26-28 And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you. (27) Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing. (28) And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.
Col 2:9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.
1Jn 5:20 And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.
Why doesn’t Moon exhibit Messiah like traits?
I thought Sun Myung Moon said his words were equal in authority and divine inspiration as the Bible. Moon also said his words do not contradict the Bible. If Moons words and his book Divine Principle contradict the Bible, who should we believe? Moon didn’t exhibit anything in his life that would help give him divine credibility. We see nothing from his life that shows God’s divine stamp of approval. According to Moon, Jesus failed his earthly mission and yet Moon doesn’t demonstrate any miraculous characteristics like Christ.
- Jesus spoke powerful words of wisdom that are still being talked about.
- Jesus has hundreds of prophecies about him, Moon did not.
- Jesus prophesied of things to come, Moon did not.
- Jesus preformed healings, Moon did not.
- Jesus cast out devils, Moon did not.
- Jesus raised people from the dead, Moon did not.
- Jesus rose from the dead, Moon did not.
I think it’s safe to say we can trust the Bible. Conversely, we have no reason to trust Sun Myung Moon’s words over the scriptures. Join us tomorrow as we look at more major theological differences between Moon theology and the Bible.
